Heart Attack Role-Playing Game

Heart Attack RPG

The Heart Attack Role-Playing Game is an officially licensed tabletop RPG based on Skybound Entertainment's powerful and poignant Heart Attack comic book series from writer/creator Shawn Kittelsen and artist/creator Eric Zawadzki. Check out this teaser video:

The year is 2052. A generation after the Great Outbreak wiped out half the human race, some children born from those vaccinated against the pandemic develop powers ranging from the unusual to the extraordinary. Leaders transformed entire facets of society to monitor and control these Variants. Born into a world ravaged by a silent apocalypse, feared by every previous generation, and oppressed by police divisions created to control them, Variants organise to fight for their freedom. The future of the world teeters on a knife’s edge in a struggle as serious as a heart attack.

While the original 12-issue Heart Attack comic series includes beings with abilities beyond human limitation, it can only be called a “superhero” adventure in the loosest definition of the term. Instead, Heart Attack combines a broad array of genres – including science fiction, post-apocalypse, romance, espionage, and political thriller – in a story that relies on them all for both plot and mood. Its theme is far simpler at its core: bigotry always provides opportunities for corruption and the abuse of power. When people with literal superpowers are the targets of that bigotry, though, it raises the stakes for all concerned.

At the intersection of all those clashing forces stand the player characters. Forced to defend their right to simply exist, they must stand up to hostile agencies, slanderous influencers, and activist infighting if they hope to discover their full potential. In a world that holds them in contempt, the greatest battle Variants face is the one to stay free.

The Heart Attack Role-Playing Game is a dual-system release, featuring both the influential Powered by the Apocalypse (PbtA) game mechanics framework (Avatar Legends, Masks, Thirsty Sword Lesbians) as well as Dyskami’s popular and modular superpowered Tri-Stat System game engine (BESM, Absolute Power, Soldier Lune).

With the Heart Attack Role-Playing Game, now you can Fight the Power – with Powers!

    Soldier Lune: Role-Playing Adventures

    Soldier Lune

The Soldier Lune RPG is directly inspired by the internationally famous magical girl anime series that debuted in Japan in 1992. It pays homage to common tropes and events in similar anime and manga stories, presenting an epic tale of love, hope, sacrifice, and determination that spans thousands of years.

The fictional series follows the exploits of a carefree teenaged schoolgirl, Yua Sato, as she learns of her true heritage as the superpowered defender of love and guardian of hope, Soldier Lune. Yua is joined by her Gorgeous Soldier allies – and her eternal love, Guy Incognito – as they defend Tokyo and the entire planet from an assortment of powerful, nefarious villains.

    Pixies: Role-Playing Adventures

    Pixies

Humans will know them by many names: Pixies, Brownies, Sprites, Fairies, Elves, Imps, Gremlins, Borrowers, and more. Pixies (as they call themselves) are tiny magical beings of fae origin who typically stand about as tall as an apple. They have survived and thrived across the Earth for countless millennia. Recently, though, their communities have been scattered and forced into the shadows during this modern world of technology, secularism, and globalisation. Individual Pixies can endure for hundreds of years, but they prefer to live in the now and relish every possible moment and sensation.

As a player character, you'll assume the role of a mischievous and amoral Pixie.

Pixies: Role-Playing Adventures is a group storytelling game about wee fae folk claiming their space in a human-sized world.

    Wyrms: Role-Playing Adventures

    Wyrms

Since the dawn of recorded time, Wyrms have ruled the skys of Khalud. They have an unassailable instinct to seek out the few remaining others of their kind. Not to mate or join in companionship, but to defeat them in combat, consume their hearts, and gain a measure of their powers. This intense drive to singular existence is the Great Fusion. Wyrms discovered long ago that they could best achieve their goals by performing a ritual to divide their consciousness and physicality into several smaller entities. Through a process known as Sundering, the races of Dragonkind came into being.

As a player character, you'll assume the role of a Dragon alongside your Sundermates.

Wyrms: Role-Playing Adventures is a group storytelling game about the eternal battles between massive flying beasts destined to consume their rivals.

    Demonicity: Role-Playing Adventures

    Demonicity

There are horrors so unimaginable that they can propel a person to the edges of their sanity. Evils so dark that they threaten to consume the world and plunge it into eternal night. Those threats manifest within terrible creatures from the hell dimension of Bazaroth, wielding incredible powers and hungering for domination. Demons are real, and they are arriving. Your team of operatives is humanity’s last line of defence against the coming infernal darkness.

As a player character, you'll assume the role of an elite operative inside Demon City.

Demonicity: Role-Playing Adventures is a group storytelling game about Earth’s forsaken Demon City, and its emerging horrors that are breaking through from the hell dimension.

Tri-Stat Refined: Universal Role-Playing Game System

    Tri-Stat Refined

The critically acclaimed Tri-Stat role-playing game system that is the foundation for the Heart Attack Role-Playing Game and over a dozen other storytelling games has been iterated and refined into a new, 128-page tabletop experience that emphasises dynamic narratives and character ideas over specific numerical details. As the ideal pocke-sized gaming tool for any adventure you can imagine across all genres, settings, themes, time periods, and power levels, Tri-Stat Refined is a perfect optional companion product for other Tri-Stat games and is a convenient way to have extra hardcover copies of the system at your gaming table as well.

Tri-Stat Refined vs. Tri-Stat Core — Tri-Stat Refined reflects an elegant evolution of the Tri-Stat System from what is presented in Tri-Stat Core games (including BESM and Absolute Power). Although the two systems share the same DNA, Tri-Stat Refined is a more … well … refined version of the mechanics that emphasises broad descriptors over prescribed numbers.

Many terms relating to game mechanic are less precisely defined than in Tri-Stat Core. This is an intentional choice to emphasise role-playing narratives and character ideas over specific numerical details. The inclusion of descriptive adjective terms – dramatic scene, major, minor, extreme, big, small, large, catastrophic, near, far, short, long, few, many, vicinity, occasionally, frequently, common, uncommon, etc. – gives the GM and players ample room to define the story and character abilities in ways that align most strongly with preferences of the player group.

Additionally, the expression of these non-prescriptive terms can be varied to best align with the adventure’s genre, tone, mood, and setting. For example, the distance descriptors of “near” and “far” may be interpreted differently in an urban fantasy game set in modern Tokyo compared to a space-faring science fiction game. Other changes from the Tri-Stat Core RPG include: numerically revised Stats and derived values, unified Enhancement and Limiter presentation, simplified dice rolls and damage, streamlined combat, a new sacrifice vs. boon trade-off mechanic that narrative benefits vs. dice rolls, and more.

    Tri-Stat Core: Role-Playing Game System

    Tri-Stat Core

This affordable, 224-page, pocket-sized edition of the Tri-Stat System (the foundation of both Absolute Power and BESM Fourth Edition) offers a complete role-playing game; no other books or products are required to play (other than up to four six-sided dice). This single volume presents a comprehensive, universal, multi-genre system that you can use for your adventure scenarios at any power level. Tri-Stat Core thus makes for an affordable extra “table copy” of the system. What this volume doesn’t offer is fluff. No art, no setting, no fancy layout, no wordy descriptions, no explanation of what an RPG is, no player or GMing advice, no quick-play character creation templates, no pre-built NPCs or equipment, and only a few examples. Nothing but the Tri-Stat System at a remarkable price!
